Curse of the Court Free Game Update Now Available on Steam for PC and macOS

Darkest Dungeon II: Curse of the Court – An Exciting Conclusion to the Kingdoms Series

Red Hook Studios has once again graced the gaming community with a thrilling update to their deeply acclaimed title, Darkest Dungeon II. The latest free update, Curse of the Court, is the third and final module of the Kingdoms mode, now available on Steam for PC and macOS. This expansion not only adds layers of intrigue and challenge but continues to refine and expand upon the already rich narrative tapestry of the game.

A New Faction: The Bloodsuckers

With Curse of the Court, players will encounter a new enemy faction known as the Bloodsuckers. These vampirically-corrupted nobles bring an unsettling presence to the game, leveraging remnants of lore from the original Darkest Dungeon’s DLC, The Crimson Court. The Bloodsuckers are not just a mere menace; they embody a supernatural contagion that puts your heroes at risk of contracting the dreaded Crimson Curse. This new threat directs players on an urgent quest to uncover a cure while simultaneously battling these grotesque foes. The escalation of tension and stakes through this new adversary adds a fresh level of excitement and urgency to gameplay.

Expansive New Content

This update isn’t limited to just new enemies. It introduces a plethora of engaging content, including three new Kingdoms maps designed with distinct layouts. Each map presents its own set of challenges, thereby enhancing the strategic depth of the gameplay. Players must navigate these new terrains and confront different variables that impact their success in defending the realm.

Additionally, Curse of the Court brings new achievements for players to earn, rewarding exploration and skill mastery. This focus on achievement not only gamifies the content but enhances players’ motivations to delve deeper into what the new module has to offer.

The Ambitious Kingdoms Mode

Launched as a free game mode, Kingdoms reimagines the original structure of the game, introducing fresh mechanics and multi-layered gameplay. It challenges players to defend their realm and maintain a network of inns while facing formidable factions, including ravenous beastmen and duplicitous witches from previous updates. Each module, from the original Hunger of the Beast Clan to Secrets of the Coven, and now Curse of the Court, has progressively built an engaging story within the broader narrative universe of Darkest Dungeon II.

Tyler Sigman, Design Director at Red Hook Studios, emphasized the risk and creativity involved in developing this new mode. “Kingdoms started as a bit of a ludicrous experiment,” he stated. This ambitious endeavor aimed to remix the foundational elements of their own game while offering players a stand-alone experience, all at no additional cost.

Special Community Event

To celebrate the release of Curse of the Court, Red Hook Studios is hosting its first-ever free weekend on Steam, allowing players to experience both the Confessions and Kingdoms modes at no charge. This special weekend runs from August 28 to September 1 and features an unprecedented 63% discount, making it the perfect opportunity for new players to dive into the game. Additional reductions are also available for bundles, providing further incentives to explore the vast dark underbelly of the game.

Upcoming Celebrations and Collectibles

In anticipation of continued success and community engagement, Red Hook Studios also announced plans for a Darkest Dungeon II: Anniversary Edition to be released in Q4 2025. This physical edition, set for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, will include collectibles such as a Collectible Steelbook, an interactive In-Game Pop-Up Diorama, a papercraft Stagecoach, along with the Original Soundtrack. This serves not just as an extension of the game, but as a heartfelt token for fans dedicated to the franchise.

As players navigate the intricacies of the new challenges presented in Curse of the Court, the developers continue to create expansive worlds ripe for exploration, strategic gameplay, and immersive storytelling. Darkest Dungeon II remains a significant player in the realm of indie gaming, captivating audiences with its blend of dark aesthetics, rich lore, and strategic complexity.
