1. Egis

Item unlock: Silo Access Badge

The first MIO boss, Egis, is a surprisingly engaging challenge, but it’s definitely beatable on your first try if you’re prepared. One tip? Be aware that sometimes you might head into battle with diminished health, so scout for a Nacre Basin above the battlefield before confronting him. Egis’s most challenging move is his rapid dash across the screen, which you can anticipate by observing his rev-up stance—just jump as he reappears to avoid the attack.

2. Crow

Item Unlock: Harvester ability

Crow may present a tougher challenge, particularly if faced early on. His initial attack is a landing slam—avoid it, and unleash damage while he’s grounded. Crow’s aerial attacks require a keen sense of timing, so focus on evasion as he transitions into his second phase, where things get faster and more complex.

3. Flora

Item unlock: Aviaries Passepartout

As a pivotal boss for progressing in the game, Flora demands quick reflexes and smart spacing. She has two main attack patterns: lifting her arms before unleashing vine strikes and a screech signaling a poison spit. Stay alert to these cues, keeping left on the screen for optimal maneuvering and damage dealing.

4. Acat

Item unlock: Dodge Ability

To face Acat, make sure you’ve acquired the Dodge ability. Use lateral movement to bait him into his attacks, punishing him while he’s on the ground. Timing your jumps—especially when Acat goes airborne—is vital, as well as utilizing your Hairpin if you ever find yourself in a pinch.

5. Calderon

Calderon’s battle involves a mix of attacking its moving head while dodging its four menacing arms. Pay close attention to the position of the arms; when they turn red, they’re about to strike. Positioning and timing your attacks here is key to overcoming this formidable foe.

6. Atmos

Having the Sail ability from the Bell Tower can be beneficial against Atmos, who starts the fight in an innocuous snowman form before transforming into a more dangerous threat. Close-range attacks are effective during his transformation, but be ready to jump over his projectile assaults as the fight escalates.

7. Nabuu

Nabuu’s complex battle requires adaptability. While it’s easier to attack its chest when on the ground, you’ll need to swiftly avoid dropping explosives during the second phase. Master your aerial control with the Sail ability to maintain mobility and avoid its higher attacks.

8. Sawlong

Sawlong isn’t a traditional boss you fight but rather a relentless pursuer akin to a rolling boulder. Memorizing the route and remaining agile is crucial—this one’s all about quick reflexes and keeping your distance to dodge its monstrous bulk.

9. Anra and Dr Halyn

This duo ramps up the challenge with their two-stage battle. Staying close to Anra allows you to dodge its projectiles easily, and remember to focus on the mechanical arm in Phase Two while attacking the downed Anra to break the shield and hasten your victory.

10. Friends

The Friends encounter is challenging more due to climbing mechanics and coordination. The main goal is to stay close to the ‘Friends’ blob while dealing damage, making sure to tackle any gooey appendages that may impede your movement.

11. Lombre

Lombre’s battle involves dodging his underground strikes and predicting his movements based on visual cues. He adds poison attacks later, demanding your utmost focus—stay nimble to evade and respond effectively when openings arise.

12. Vlad

Vlad offers a unique twist by relying on projectiles and spikes rather than direct attacks. Keep an eye on the vibrating walls to time your jumps effectively, ensuring you avoid damage while seeking opportunities to inflict damage.

13. Ancile and Targa

These two bosses bring back familiar battle mechanics while increasing the pace. Focus on one enemy at a time during their simultaneous movements, taking advantage of the moments when they’re together to land damage efficiently.

14. Debby

Debby adds a level of tension by dropping explosives that destroy the ground beneath you. It’s vital to watch your placement, using double jumps strategically to avoid pitfalls while dealing continuous damage through projectiles from the edge of the screen.

15. Poltergates

Poltergates combines aesthetics with complexity, challenging you to manage multiple foes while simultaneously avoiding attacks. Understanding how to navigate between different stages and anticipate shenanigans from either version of Gates is essential for victory.

16. Sol and Vin

The fight against Sol and Vin tests your mastery over jumping and dodging mechanics. As the ground shrinks, you’ll need to rely heavily on Hairpin ability to stay mobile while dispatching them one at a time. Pay attention to their patterns, especially as you approach the final stretch of the battle.

17. The Keeper of the Heart

The final boss, The Keeper of the Heart, is perhaps the most endurance-testing of them all. Its combination of jab and projectile attacks calls for a meticulous approach, making damage management crucial. As long as you’ve stocked up on defensive layers and are patient with your attacks, you’ll find a way to emerge victorious.

With these handy tips on beating the challenging MIO bosses, you should have no problem rolling credits on this beautiful metroidvania game – and finding that ‘true’ ending, to boot. We’ll keep adding to this list as we progress.
